Greg Burgess (guitars) comments: "What can we say about J.S. Bach that hasn't already been said? Musical genius? Greatest composer to ever walk the earth? It's all been written before, so I'll go to what he means to Allegaeon. I first heard this piece back in 2000, and it has been a dream of mine to arrange this piece for a metal band; it only took 20 years to make it a reality. For anyone who has never worked on Bach before, the learning process is painstaking. Just when you think it's a repeat of a section you've already learned, you're suddenly in a new key, or there is a variation that totally throws a wrench in your muscle memory. In short, recording this piece was the most challenging thing I've ever attempted in this band. And I'm insanely proud of it. Crank it loud and get lost in it."



Riley McShane (vocals) adds: "Originally, these songs were part of the first draft track-listing of 'Apoptosis'. In fact, this alternate track-listing - including these two songs - ended up being the running order for the 'Apoptosis' LP. However, over a year after the initial release, we decided to put the songs out in a digital format for everyone to enjoy, just in time for the holiday season. Who needs Trans-Siberian Orchestra when you have Allegaeon covering Bach?"

Allegaeon's latest album, Apoptosis, was released last year to critical acclaim. Tracked at Flatline Audio in Denver with long-serving producer Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage), Apoptosis is Allegaeon's fifth full-length, and the first to feature bassist Brandon Michael. "Musically, Brandon brings a huge new dimension," vocalist Riley McShane enthuses. "He has this wide breadth of music knowledge and stylistic proficiency that he draws from with excellent taste, and this makes a lot of the songs on 'Apoptosis' come to life." The record also features a guest appearance by classical guitarist Christina Sandsengen, who duets with guitarist Greg Burgess on "Colors of the Currents". "On this record, I was more open to new ideas that we might not have used in past," states guitarist Michael Stancel. "Rather than deleting something because 'it's not Allegaeon-y enough', I would take a step back and see if that idea fit the song and decide if it was worth keeping. With that mentality came some of my favorite songs, because I was less worried about if it fit into our old sound." This statement is borne out across the whole album, which while very much embodying the core Allegaeon sound that has drawn fans in over the course of their impressive career, it pushes into new territory, and does so with unerring confidence. "Thematically, this record is all about contrast, and the music reflects that perfectly," says McShane. "The vocals are heavier than ever, but there are also more clean sections. The drums are faster than ever but also more dynamic, and the guitar playing is lower and slower than on most previous albums, but also provides long, melodic and beautiful sections throughout."

Since they began flying the flag for German thrash in the 80s, Accuser have gone on to prove themselves one of the most enduring forces in global metal. With eleven full-lengths behind them, they return in 2020 with their latest masterwork: a blistering collection that captures everything that makes the band so vital, produced by longtime collaborator Martin Buchwalter (who has worked on five Accuser albums) and mastered by Dan Swanö. "You stay fresh through curiosity," states vocalist/guitarist Frank Thoms. "Writing new songs keeps you fresh, and it is always exciting how things develop and how the listener reacts to them afterwards. This process never gets boring. It is always exciting and invites you to try new things." The result is a dynamic album that is very much rooted in thrash, but still takes the listener through various moods and styles, further cementing Accuser's status as leaders, not followers.

The return of lead guitarist René Schütz to the band's ranks - who appeared on multiple Accuser records prior to 2011 - only served to up the ante on Accuser. "We are very, very happy to have him back in the band, and as you will be able to hear, his leads are definitely over the top. From my perspective, he is one of the very, very few thrash metal guitarists who are able to combine technique and feeling in a proper way." With writing for the new record commencing as soon as 2018's The Mastery was completed, Thoms pushed himself until he was in "100% concentration mode", knowing he is on the right path when he forgets his daily routine and normal life falls away. With no structure or plan envisaged, the songs came together naturally, as they always have. "The Accuser sound is in our DNA, and at the end of the day, it is our own blend of thrash metal. To be honest, that's what I like best during the process of making a record, seeing how the music develops and how the album is taking shape." The shape Accuser took is definitely versatile, and perhaps sounds simpler than it actually is. "We managed to make well thought-out songs sound simple. Crazy things don't seem like a disturbance or a foreign body. In addition, we have inconspicuously processed various genres of metal. Ultimately, we just tried to offer the essence of the band, the groove from 'Repent' (1992), the riffs in the veins of 'Who Dominates Who' (1989), plus structures that could be found on the first album 'The Conviction' (1987) and stylistics that could be from 'Reflections' (1994) or 'Taken By The Throat' (1995) - everything put together in catchy songs."

The combination of these elements that shout back to earlier Accuser releases - without repeating or copying themselves - alongside the return of Schütz, led Thoms to believe this album "must be called Accuser".

Alexander Veljanov comments: "I have known this track since my youth", relates the vocalist. "Although I have never been the biggest fan of neither Patti Smith nor Bruce Springsteen, the life and work of these outstanding personalities has always impressed me. Of course, 'Because the Night' is a classic, which probably nobody expected us to cover. I did not want to deconstruct the song or darken it, but it has an inherent melancholy and energetic romanticism that demonstrates, the power of love shines above everything else."

Ernst Horn adds: "We have been mulling the idea for a cover albnum for quite a while", writes the instrumentalist. "It turned out to be an interesting way to work as those tunes were not necessarily the favourites of my youth. Yet their build-up and the harmonies remain fascinating, which turned working with those songs into am beautiful and valuable experience. I have done my best to respect the originals, which meant that turning them on their heads or mocking those classics was never an option. I have preserved the harmonies, but as Alexander has his own style of singing, I used different colours and rhythm patterns to suit him and thus these cover versions adapted something of our identity too."

DEINE LAKAIEN are a German cultural icon. In their home country where the artificial distinction between "serious and popular music" is still maintained, the legendary electronic avantgarde duo has managed the rare feat of being accepted as serious artists as well as proving to be highly popular.

With their 10th studio full-length, "Dual", classically-educated composer and pianist Ernst Horn and vocalist extraordinaire Alexander Veljanov ingeniously contrive to blur the fictional lines drawn by editorial gatekeepers in a conceptual double album, which connects both full-lengths by a double reference.

Half of the double album consists of 10 new songs that DEINE LAKAIEN have crafted with particular artists or songs in mind that have been important for the duo's musical evolution. These sources of inspiration are made clear on the second album of "Dual", which features 10 amazing cover tracks that range from Cat Stevens' classic 'Lady D’Arbanville' via Jacques Brels melancholic 'La chanson des vieux amants' to Kate Bush's 'Suspended in Gaffa' and the surprising choice of the Linkin Park song 'My December'. Each of these renditions has been lovingly translated into the Germans' unmistakable soundscape.

In this artistic juxtaposition of a cover version and related new song, the Patti Smith/Bruce Springsteen collaboration 'Because the Night' corresponds with the Horn/Veljanov composition 'Because of Because'.

In this age of perceived cultural appropriation and inquisitorial demand for some kind of impossible purity, DEINE LAKAIEN make the obvious audible by pointing out that art does not grow out of thin air - as clearly as Beethoven could not have created the same compositions without the works of Bach before him, and in turn influence Wagner to progress in his footsteps.

Although an artistic achievement in itself, "Dual" can also be enjoyed without any theoretical consideration as 20 beautiful songs that each provide excellent entertainment. DEINE LAKAIEN lay bare some of the sources of their inspiration and artists that have touched, inspired, thrilled, and shaped them in a most respectful way.

Once again, DEINE LAKAIEN are breaking new ground, which the duo have achieved multiple times in their now 35-year history. Founded in 1985, they started as a purely electronic avantgarde dark wave project. Taking their name from a reference in the song 'Die genaue Zeit' by German experimentalists Einstürzende Neubauten, the band self-released "Deine Lakaien" in 1986, which spread by word of mouth and created an underground buzz. The debut set the duo clearly apart from electronic contemporaries such as YAZOO, SOFT CELL, EURYTHMICS, and OMD by virtue of their singular dark sound.

With official label backing, the albums "Dark Star" (1991) and "Forest Enter Exit" (1993) considerably widened the Germans' audience and gained the attention of influential critics. Simultaneous with their growing success, DEINE LAKAIEN broadened their musical scope by playing a fully acoustic tour in 1992, an ambitious exercise that would influence later albums such as "Kasmodiah" (1999). Their impressive and highly diverse catalogue has been summarised in the anniversary releases “XXX. The 30 Years Retrospective" (2016) and "The 30 Years Retrospective: Live" (2018).

Although the global pandemic upset the original planning, DEINE LAKAIEN are no longer prepared to accept this disturbance of their musical endeavours. The duo will release the eagerly awaited "Dual" on April 16, 2021, to the delight of a massive following that has been clamouring to finally receive the promised album. It is high time the visionaries bring forth their fascinating voice and unique music to the world once more.

BARK release "I'm a Wreck", first single of its third album "Written in Stone"

BARK is a metal band from Antwerp, Belgium, which had its beginning in late 2014 and was born from the ashes of the Rock N 'Roll band "Aguardente". Drummer Ward Van der Straeten and guitarists Rui Da Silva and Martin Furia (ex Jesusmartyr and Furia), began to play and laid the foundations for a new band. Given the nature of the short, rabid songs they were making, they decided to call the band Bark.

With a view to the release of Written in Stone, their third full-length material that will be released on December 10, the group presents the official video for the song "I'm a Wreck", the first single of the aforementioned album in question.

The track is a brutal and faithful demonstration of the essence of the band. Aggressive riffs, forceful drums and fierce voices are some of the features present in the first single of the new Bark LP, which acts as a prelude to everything that the audience will be able to find on the album.

British hard-rock heroes, Thunder, have announced the release of their 13th studio album ‘All The Right Noises’ on 12th March 2021. The band have also shared the first single ‘Last One Out Turn Off The Lights’


The album is a return to the full-throttle sound of Thunder that has seen them create a hugely successful 30+ year career at the forefront of British rock, all built around the lifelong friendship of vocalist extraordinaire Danny Bowes and songwriting genius and guitarist Luke Morley.


‘All The Right Noises’ is an intense confection of illicit charms that reasserts their authority as the number one band in the land. Recorded in the months leading up to the first Covid-19 lockdown, it was originally due for release in September 2020. Strange to reflect then on how much of the new material appears to address the challenging new world we now inhabit.


On the album, Luke says “ All the songs were written and recorded pre-Covid. But it is interesting how if you look at some of the tracks through the prism of Covid they still make a lot of sense.”

The volcanic lead single from the album, ‘Last One Out Turn Off The Lights’ could easily be mistaken for world-ending lockdown rage. But, says Luke, “That was directly about Brexit, but you could apply it to everything else.”


The track is indicative of both the ferocity and message of the album as a whole, with subjects tackled including depression, mental health, and diversity. With their knack for imaginative songwriting, ‘All The Right Noises’ also takes aim at Donald Trump in a song written from his perspective, as well as a song Luke describes as “Like the opposite of ‘My Generation” by The Who in its message.

‘All The Right Noise’ will be available in 1CD, 2CD, 2LP, and 4LP formats, with the 2CD and 4LP releases containing bonus tracks.


The LP versions feature a stunning pop-out of the ‘Singing Ringing Tree’ which appears of the album’s glorious artwork. The photo cover art was shot by the band’s long term collaborator Jason Joyce. The sculpture, which also appears in the video for ‘Last One Out Turn Off The Lights’, is set in Burnley, Lancashire, and resembles a tree which harnesses the energy of the wind to create a choral, discordant sound.


‘All The Right Noises’ follows on from 2019’s stripped back and reimagined album, ‘Please Remain Seated’ which continued their consecutive Top 10 UK Album Chart run since their ecstatically received comeback six years ago.


It is another chapter in the band’s incredibly successful history that has seen them create a succession of some of the most highly-regarded rock albums of the past 30 years. The key to their renown: brilliantly conceived top-drawer material including all-time classics like ‘Dirty Love’, and ‘Low Life In High Places’, described by the late great Radio One Rock Show presenter Tommy Vance as “the greatest ever single released by a rock band”.


With their most recent success, Thunder have proven themselves as vital now as when they emerged with their debut album in 1990 ‘Backstreet Symphony’, and their hit follow-up in 1992 ‘Laughing On Judgement Day’, which was only kept off the top spot by Kylie Minogue.

France has long been a fertile breeding ground for black metal, and one of its best kept secrets is Déluge, who have been kicking up a blend of that genre and post-hardcore since 2014. Dropping their debut full-length Æther in 2015, in 2020 they return with sophomore effort Ægo Templo, a more accessible record that pushes their sound in ever more imaginative directions. "I wanted to go further into something more 'easy to listen to', but I really did not want to lose what we had, that melancholia and the essence of our music," states founding guitarist François-Thibaut Hordé. "It was a very interesting - and exhausting - challenge, and to me we have succeeded. We are really proud of this new record."

Produced by François-Thibaut with assistance from engineers Thibault Chaumont/Deviant Lab studio (Igorrr, Carpenter Brut, Birds in Row) - who also mixed and mastered the album - and Amaury Sauvé / The Apiary studio who recorded the drums, Ægo Templo marks a bold step forward from their earlier recorded output. Featuring clean vocals on almost every track, keyboards and additional instruments on several songs, plus soprano saxophone on "Opprobre", this new offering separates Déluge from their contemporaries, all the while maintaining their identity.

The band also turned to Valnoir from Metastazis Studio in Paris to once again design their artwork, and they asked several artists to guest on the record: Tetsuya Fukagawa of Japanese Screamo legends Envy adds vocals to "Gloire Au Silence"; Matthieu Metzger provides saxophone on "Opprobre"; and Hélène Muesser contributes vocals on "Abysses", "Ægo Templo" and "Digue" - all helping to add further depths to the music.

Dynamic, heavy as hell, catchy, and uncompromising, it is everything that the band's longtime faithful have come to expect from the deadly unit, and is clearly the product of a lot of hard work by vocalist Chris Barnes, guitarists Jack Owen and Ray Suhy, bassist Jeff Hughell and drummer Marco Pitruzzella.

Tracked at various studios including Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida, which over the years has played host to the likes of AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and Aerosmith amongst others, it was produced, engineered and mixed by Chris Carroll, who has given it a full and chunky feel. The album's mastering was handled by Chaz Najjar at Badlands Recording in Denver, Colorado. The finished product comes packaged in artwork by Luke Hunter and is packed with songs that will sound great live, and will sit comfortably alongside the classics already filling out their set lists, helping to drive the band ever closer to their fourth decade of existence.

Chris Barnes (vocals) comments: "Working again after 25 years writing an album with my old band mate from Cannibal Corpse, Jack Owen, was like coming home...To a room full of dead bodies. Jack's writing and riff work on this album gave me the fuel to write some disturbing lyrics and really set my creative mind on fire."

CRO-MAGS kingpin Harley Flanagan is back with “Between Wars,” the gripping new music video from their latest opus In The Beginning, available everywhere now on Mission Two Entertainment. The track lends its name to Between Wars, the independent film starring Flanagan and The Sopranos star Michael Imperioli, due out later this year.

“This song was a lot of fun to work on as it gave me a chance to do something completely different,” says Flanagan about the instrumental track. “I recorded the song with just bass and drums, followed by all the arpeggiated guitar parts, and eventually I added the cellos and did Hungarian-style throat singing. I was inspired to add the cellos when I first heard Carlos "Lamont" Cooper playing in the NYC subway where he plays to make a living. Turns out he's an ex-gangbanger from NJ who has had a hard life and although we have had very different experiences, we have a lot of things in common; PTSD will do that.”

Imperioli adds, “Harley’s involvement and performance in Between Wars is organic, natural and necessary. He fit into the role like a glove. The life experience he brings to the project is authentic and true and he made us all raise our games.”

Imperioli and Flanagan sat down with the movie’s director Tom Phillips to discuss the music video, the film, and the importance of music scores and soundtracks. Between Wars takes an intimate look at the struggle of re-entering civilian life post-combat. The film follows veteran Marine Franny Malloy (Shaun Paul Costello) as he struggles with integrating himself back home in NYC after returning from the war in Afghanistan. Battling PTSD and self-destructive behaviors, he finds his only hope in fellow Marine turned PTSD psychologist, Sarge, played by Michael Imperioli. Harley Flanagan plays McManus, an old school Bronx Irish gangster and general madman.

It’s been a few productive years for Flanagan lately, who after forming the CRO-MAGS in 1983, legally asserted his original rights to the band name last year in a well-publicized lawsuit. “In many ways, it is a new beginning and also a tribute to where it all began,” reflects the frontman on the band’s first album in 20 years, In The Beginning.

Extremity has been Anaal Nathrakh's stock in trade for more than two decades, and with Endarkenment, they maintain their legacy of aural devastation. However, for all the furor they stir up, the duo have never been a two-dimensional entity, with a great deal of depth involved in everything that they do, and on many levels the new record is distinguished from its predecessors. "I think in terms of feel, it's brighter, more open and direct than maybe we've been in the past," states vocalist Dave Hunt. "Obviously I don't mean it's happy-go-lucky sounding, or suggestive of a sunny disposition. I mean something more like it burns with light rather than glowers with darkness. It's coruscating." The evolution since 2018's towering A New Kind Of Horror has been personal and profound, and is very much in line with that experienced by many of their listeners. "Personally, I feel more cynical, more bitter, with a greater sense that the world is fucked, and is continually re-fucked by people who have no idea what they are doing. Musically, I think we're more mature - not less frenetic, but better able to channel our energies where they'll be most effective. That's an ongoing process, you never finish growing into what you're doing and being better able to push at the edges of what you can do. But we aren't interested in evolving what we do, only how we do it. We remain unlike the vast majority of other bands in our sound, and we're proud of what we do."

With laying out a plan and then executing it not conducive to the kind of energetic, chaotic vigor Hunt and multi-instrumentalist Mick Kenney look for, the band follow ideas where they are taken by them and work spontaneously. Coining the phrase "riding a dragon" when recording - "making music with a sense that all you can do is hang on" - this very much embodies the tumultuous racket thrown up by Endarkenment, with its storms of blastbeat driven violence, frenzied riffing and panoramic choruses that suddenly change the direction of tracks. "We only really know what an album is like after we've finished it. Doing it any other way just wouldn't be right for us." One thing that was very clear to the band was the album's title and how prescient it is in current times, standing as the opposite of the Enlightenment, a movement that went against superstition and ignorance. Writing in the album's liner notes, Hunt says: "There has been, and continues to be, increasingly widespread rejection of Enlightenment-style values such as rationalism, skepticism, the rejection of faith in favour of judgements dependent on empirically verifiable phenomena and so on. There are local versions in many places, but in our native UK, this was summed up by politician/sinister gnome Michael Gove's famous claim that we've 'had enough of experts'. Thus we enter the age of endarkenment." With this as an overarching theme, Hunt, one of the more intellectual lyricists in contemporary metal, penned the lyrics to the record, exploring a diverse range of subject areas and looking in often uncomfortable directions.

The music was tracked entirely in Kenney's studio in southern California while the vocals were laid down in an industrial estate in Birmingham, UK, in a unit just down the corridor from where an S&M porn was being filmed. "It occurred to me not long ago that we haven't recorded together at the same place twice for ten years or more, and I think part of the reason for that is that is that the place itself doesn't really affect us. It changes the experience of actually doing it in terms of being there in person, obviously, but it doesn't really make any difference to the way we work together. Dedicated studios, expensive gear, acoustically isolated live rooms and so on - they're all great, I'm sure, but give us a quiet room with a lightbulb, a laptop and a shitty mic and we'll still do basically the same thing. The music and the atmosphere and the inspiration are in us, not in places or pieces of equipment."

Cela fait plusieurs années que nous souhaitons reprendre un de nos morceaux en acoustique et cette fois-ci nous nous sommes donné les moyens de le faire. Ce morceau a été enregistré en prise live, en compagnie de deux personnes extérieures au groupe. Effectivement, après avoir bossé sur ce projet acoustique, on a souhaité lui donner plus de corps et c’est tout naturellement que l’on s’est tourné vers notre ami Eddy Kaiser, qui a un projet solo de dark/folk. Il nous a aidé dans la composition du morceau, nous a présenté à Justine la violoniste et nous avons travaillé avec eux plusieurs mois en amont de l’enregistrement.

MEMOIRA hails from Pori/Jyväskylä, Finland, playing symphonic/ gothic metal. Blaqk Audio — the electronic duo featuring AFI icons Davey Havok and Jade Puget — have announced their new album Beneath The Black Palms. The album is being released via BlaqkNoise in two parts. Beneath The Black Palms — Side A arrives today, July 28, and features five songs. The entire album, including the first five songs that comprise Side A, drops on August 21. It was recorded, produced, and mixed by Blaqk Audio.

"Beneath the Black Palms is an affirmation, exaltation, and momentary illumination of rich, arcane shadows fortified by blinding and rapturous light," Havok says. "Musically a bird sister of Only Things We Love, our latest record more deeply traverses our EBM and futrurepop roots while also extending into moods unheard from us before. I am deeply excited to have the opportunity to share it with all."

Emmanuel Guibert sera l’invité de l’Académie des beaux-arts du 9 septembre au 18 octobre 2020 pour une exposition autour de ses biographies en bande dessinée consacrées à ses amis, l’ancien G.I. Alan Ingram Cope et le photo-reporter Didier Lefèvre. Ces hommes valeureux se racontent dans des livres intitulés La guerre d’Alan, l’Enfance d’Alan, Martha et Alan (L'Association), Le photographe (Dupuis), abondamment lus et traduits.

De nombreux dessins seront montrés, accompagnés de récits, photographies, diaporamas ainsi que d’objets qui concourent à l’évocation de deux vies confrontées à l’histoire de leur temps ; la crise de 1929 en Californie et la Seconde Guerre mondiale en Europe pour l’une, l’Afghanistan des années 1980 occupé par l’Armée rouge pour l’autre.

En plus d'illustrer la profonde adéquation entre bande dessinée et biographie, l'exposition Biographies dessinées est la première exposition que l'Académie des beaux-arts consacre à la bande dessinée.

GLASS CASTLE est un projet au concept basé sur la fusion instrumentale de plusieurs courants musicaux : pop-rock, rock alternatif, metal, djent et rétro-electro 80’s /Synthwave. Ego Kill Talent ? Ce nom vous dit déjà peut-être quelque chose...

En effet, en 2017 & 2018, vous avez sans doute vu ce groupe originaire de Sao Paulo, sur l'une des scènes du festival Download Paris.
Ou alors, peut-être avez-vous apprécié leurs riffs en 1ère partie de System of a Down aux Arènes de Nîmes. La même année, toujours en 2018, ils jouaient aussi en ouverture de Within Temptation au Zénith de la Porte de la Villette.

Bref, la France est loin d'être une terre inconnue pour ces brésiliens qui n'ont pas de leçon à recevoir de la part des anglo-saxons lorsqu'il s'agit de faire vrombir des compos "heavy" qui ne cachent pas leurs ambitions pop. Doté d'un chanteur imparable et d'une fluidité instrumentale qui a fait ses preuves, Ego Kill Talent a sorti un premier album en 2017.

En février dernier le groupe avait mis en ligne le clip de " Now ", suivit, au mois d'avril, d'une vidéo illustrant la chanson " Lifeporn ".
Aujourd'hui, c'est " The Call ", un 3ème nouveau titre, qui vient compléter "The Dance", un EP qui annonce un nouvel album prévu pour début 2021. Mais d'ici là Ego Kill Talent vous réserve quelques petites surprises...

Formé en 2014 par le chanteur Jonathan Correa et le guitariste Theo van der Loo, Ego Kill Talent compte aussi dans ses rangs le batteur Jean Dolabella, qui a officié pendant 5 ans chez Sepultura et bossé avec Mike Patton ou le producteur Matt Wallace,

Le Motocultor Festival à l'affiche d'un événement virtuel metal européen !


Face à la crise sanitaire, le Motocultor Festival et douze des meilleurs festivals indépendants de metal d’Europe parmi lesquels l’Alcatraz Festival (Belgique), le Summer Breeze (Allemagne) ou encore le Bloodstock Festival (Royaume-Uni), ont décidé d’unir leurs forces pour créer un événement virtuel : “L’European Metal Festival Alliance”.

Le concept est simple : un festival en streaming, tout au long du week-end du 7 au 9 Août 2020.
Un rendez-vous dématérialisé sur www.metalfestivalalliance.com qui proposera des performances live exclusives d’une sélection d’artistes concocté par chaque festival, des interviews, du merchandising et bien plus encore. Pour représenter la France, le Motocultor Festival a choisi deux formations bien connues de l’hexagone : MASS HYSTERIA et SVART CROWN !

Avec plus de vingt-cinq ans d’existence, neuf albums studios, plusieurs DVD live (dont l’Olympia, le Trianon et le Hellfest !), Mass Hysteria est un des piliers de la scène française. Avec sa furia et ses textes en français, Mass Hysteria est l’argument francophone indiscutable du Motocultor Festival.

De son côté, SVART CROWN a une approche plus extrême puisqu’il prodigue un blackened death metal dont le dernier point d’orgue se nomme Wolves Among The Ashes. Un nouvel et cinquième album qui apporte à la formation niçoise une dimension bien plus européenne puisque sorti chez le géant allemand Century Media Records.

Deux styles, deux notoriétés, deux talents issus de nos contrées qui iront donc côtoyer les deux représentants nationaux de chaque festival.
Le tout dans une programmation réunissant 35 noms dont voici la première salve :

On September 25th, The Ocean will release their 8th full-length, Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic, via Metal Blade Records (CD / digital) and the band's own Pelagic Records (vinyl). In 2018, The Ocean released Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic - the first half of a sprawling but superbly cohesive paleontology concept album. Widely hailed as their finest work to date, Phanerozoic I brimmed with moments of wide-eyed melodic brilliance, alongside the expected warping and weaving of post-metal conventions. "The first part of 'Phanerozoic' really is a 'no-regrets' album, which is quite rare," says guitarist Robin Staps. "Maybe even the first time I can ever say that."



In contrast with the compositional directness of Phanerozoic I, the new album - Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic - is a vastly more progressive and perverse piece of work. "'Phanerozoic II' is more experimental, more eclectic in musical style and direction, and more varied in terms of tempos, beats, guitar work and the use of electronics," notes Staps. "This was an intentional choice: we wanted Part I to feel rather streamlined and to have a strong cohesion between the individual songs. We wanted to create a certain vibe to linger from the first until the last note throughout the whole record. We kept the weirder, more daring and more progressive material for Part II."



Tracked in Iceland, Spain and Germany and produced by esteemed studio guru Jens Bogren, Phanerozoic II is underpinned by some of the most imaginative and challenging music that The Ocean - completed by drummer Paul Seidel, keyboard maestro Peter Voigtmann, bassist Mattias Hagerstrand and guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt - have made yet. Divided into two sections - Mesozoic and Cenozoic - the album once again showcases the detail and depth that have become two of The Ocean's most enduring trademarks. While ostensibly delving into the extraordinary realities of the Earth's shifting temporal tides, Staps and his comrades have long drawn hazy parallels between their chosen subjects and the emotional experiences that their music strives to convey. Phanerozoic II is essentially an album about time, with some very poignant and pointed allusions to the modern world woven into the new music's spiritual fabric.


Staps explains, "The outcome is a record that is a real journey. It starts in one place, and concludes in a totally different place. In a way, it relates to 2013's 'Pelagial', which was similar in that it was also a journey: but a more guided, focused and predictable one. 'Phanerozoic II' on the other hand is closer to the experience of free fall."

Guitarist John Connolly Says: "The song resonated with me personally because I'm more of an introvert than an extrovert, and it was refreshing to hear one of your heroes having the same view of himself. Always helps to hear that you're not alone...even if you can't help but make that conscious choice. The constant struggle to not try to disconnect from others isn't something that is unusual and like the song says "One more time around, might do it" failed, but willing to try again. Lyrically, melodically, musically and vocally very influential for me."

Guitarist Alex Wade comments: "We are excited to release the animated video for 'Doom Woods' off our 2019 release 'The Valley'. While we have some time off from touring, we thought it would be a great time to give a visual representation to the closing track from the album. We were blown away with what the design team was able to create and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did. It really gives the track a new depth."

«Swan Songs III», le nouvel album de LORD OF THE LOST (Dark Metal - Allemagne), enregistré avec un ensemble de musique classique sortira le 7 août chez Napalm Records.

Ce double-album comprendra un premier CD constitué de morceaux inédits enregistrés avec l’Ensemble Lord Of The Lost et un second avec de nouvelles versions de certains titres phares du groupe, également enregistrés avec l'ensemble classique.

Le groupe de Dark Metal LORD OF THE LOST est de retour avec un nouveau chapitre des Swan Songs, morceaux enregistrés avec un ensemble classique. Le très attendu Swan Songs III sortira chez Napalm Records le 7 août 2020.

Cet album est absolument exceptionnel grâce à une narration particulièrement émouvante se mêlant à de belles harmonies et au chant profond de Chris Harms. Le premier single, “A One Ton Heart”, se présente comme une ballade puissante qui emporte l'auditeur dans un voyage musical avec des lignes de piano paradisiaques, soulignées par de délicates guitares acoustiques et des rythmiques douces.

LORD OF THE LOST à propos du single et de la vidéo :

"Depuis les débuts de LORD OF THE LOST, nous avions envie de tourner une vidéo comme celle-ci. Malheureusement, aucun de nos morceaux n'était adéquat pour cela. "A One Ton Heart" ne l'est pas vraiment non plus, mais nous n'avions pas envie d'attendre plus longtemps. Alors cette vidéo - dans sa déclaration inexistante - et nos looks absurdes n'ont absolument rien à voir avec le morceau. Mais heureusement, cela n'a pas d'importance pour la chanson. Et nous avons réalisé un autre rêve."

Aucun instrument vivant n'a été maltraité durant le tournage de ce clip.
Tous les instruments étaient déjà décédés et injouables.
Après le tournage, leurs dépouilles ont été brûlées au cours d'un rituel satanique approprié.

La version standard de l'album sera constituée de nouveaux morceaux, tous enregistrés avec l'Ensemble Lord Of The Lost, ainsi que de nouvelles versions de certains titres phares de LORD OF THE LOST, notamment le sublime morceau de 18 minutes “Letters To Home”.

Pour tous les fans de Dark Metal, Swan Songs III sera également proposé dans une édition Deluxe de grande qualité, incluant les versions instrumentales Swan Symphonies III et les démos de huit nouveaux morceaux. Ce coffret spécial contiendra également l'intégralité du concert célébrant les 10 ans du groupe dans leur ville natale Hambourg en 2019. Au total plus de cinq heures de LORD OF THE LOST disponibles sur sept CDs !

Les circonstances ont obligé Wardruna à reporter la sortie de leur prochain album "Kvitravn".

"Il était clair pour nous que nous voulions toujours sortir de la nouvelle musique. La musique et l'art peuvent avoir une grande signification dans les périodes d'incertitude. Nous avons décidé que ce n'était pas le moment de rester silencieux et nous sommes retournés directement créer en studio pour écrire et enregistrer la chanson "Lyfjaberg".

Le vieux mot nordique Lyfjaberg, qui signifie "colline de guérison", est connu dans la mythologie nordique comme un lieu de réconfort et de guérison pour les ceux qui parviennent à escalader la montagne et à y porter des offrandes -un cadeau exige un cadeau en retour.

"Lyfjaberg" sera disponible en digital le 5 juin.

Einar Selvik en live

Einar Selvik, âme créatrice de Wardruna, est l'architecte du festival Nordvegen, salué par la critique. Cette année, Einar Selvik a participé à la cérémonie d'ouverture le 20 mai avec un orchestre interprétant l'une de ses chansons les plus emblématiques, "Voluspá", et a joué à guichets fermés dans le medieval Royal Feasting hall Håkonshallen le 21 mai, où il a interprété la nouvelle chanson de Wardruna, "Grà".

Un titre qui laisse des traces et dont parle déjà !

Alors que vendredi dernier le groupe américain TETRARCH était encore quasi inconnu dans nos contrées, le lancement de leur nouveau titre " I'm Not Right " leur a permis de se retrouver, en moins de 24 heures, en cover et en tête de la playlist New Blood de Spotify.

“Unstable”, leur nouvel album ne sortira pas avant cet automne, mais la mise en ligne du clip illustrant " I'm Not Right " a tout de même déclenché une vague de commentaires positifs de la part des spécialistes du genre !
Signes que la scène a besoin de sang neuf

Le nom du groupe s'inspire de celui d'un char de combat utilisé par les anglais au cours de la seconde guerre mondiale.

Monday, May 18 marked the third anniversary of the tragic passing of Soundgarden singer and rock legend Chris Cornell. To honor his memory, The Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron collaborated on a powerful cover of Soudgarden's "Halfway There," which they recorded while in quarantine.

The Pretty Reckless formed in New York City during 2008, and the musicians and late producer Kato Khandwala initially made waves with their 2010 debut Light Me Up. KINGNOMAD se forment en 2014 dans un petit village du Nord de la Suède. Jay et Marcus, meilleurs amis et voisins, avaient le désir de faire cohabiter son seventies, chant et arrangements diaboliques, et textes témoins de sombres et lointaines contrées. Maximilian est rapidement recruté à la basse, suivi du batteur de punk Andreas. Cinq morceaux sont enregistrés, lesquels arrivent aux oreilles de Ripple Music, qui en sortent quatre dans le cadre de leur série de split vinyles "Second Coming of Heavy".

En 2017, KINGNOMAD sort son premier album "Mapping the Inner Void", un pavé heavy psyché inspiré de paysages sonores Lovecraftiens. Le groupe se remet très rapidement à composer, pour sortir "The Great Nothing" en 2018. Avec un nouveau batteur derrière les fûts, ce second opus se pose comme un chef-d’œuvre de musique conceptuelle adoubé par Classic Rock Magazine, entre autres. Leur nouvel album "Sagan Om Rymden" met en évidence l'évolution indéniable de KINGNOMAD : sans jamais se reposer sur ses acquis, le quatuor continue de se renouveler tout en restant fidèle à son esprit "nomade". Christine Plays Viola, one historical Italian band in our label, will release on 2020 may 18th, a new chapter in their discography: "Fading".
The change and the evolution of the sounds have always been the fundamental principles of the band's musical proposal. Also in this fourth album, the CPV present a more intimate work, in which the use of less angular sounds is evident, sometimes more acoustic than in the past but without ever distorting the imprinting matured by the band from its debut until today.

Vendredi 1er mai le groupe a lancé " Polar Bear " un 1er extrait de ce disque.

Bien entendu Alcatrazz c'est le groupe de Graham Bonnet, connu pour avoir chanter sur les albums "Down To Earth" de Rainbow et "Assault Attack" de MSG.

Le bonhomme peut tout de même se vanter d'avoir officié aux côtés de guitar heroes tels que Ritchie Blackmore, Michael Schenker, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Danny Johnson, Chris Impellitteri, Bob Kulick... et quelques autres fines lames moins connues...

Et pour ce "retour" Graham a tout simplement fait appel à Joe Stump un shreder hors-norme dont on ne saurai trop vous recommander les albums solo :)

En cette période de confinement, STUBORA revient en vidéo sur l’une de ses influences des années 80 avec une reprise du titre « Breaking The Law » de JUDAS PRIEST. Chaque membre du groupe, a travaillé, enregistré et filmé le titre de son côté avec comme objectif commun de se faire plaisir et de le partager avec tous les fans du combo britannique.

The Midnight Computers is a french post-punk band with new wave influences born in October 2019 out of the desire to overcome the monotony of two techno producers: Jonathann Cast (vocals – programming) who has always been immersed in EBM and industrial music and Pascal Roeder (guitar – synthesizer) who draws his influences from 70s rock. Joined quickly by Alexandre Saintorant (guitar – bass), a former punk guitarist ; to share what all three have in common: a passion for the dark and synthetic side of the 80s. They have an unlimited amount of ideas in their heads and it will only take them a few weeks to write, compose and record seven tracks. No drummer needed, the coldness of the drum machine is preferred, pushing the chorus on the guitars to the max, and letting the dark voice of The Midnight Computers carry you away.

WOLCENSMEN ANNOUNCE "THROUGH THE ETHER" LIVE STREAM AT INFERNO

On April 8, we were supposed to have the annual Indie Recordings Label Night during the Inferno Metal Festival here in Oslo. Both the festival and the label night has been moved to next year, but one of the artists on the billing will still do a show for us this Easter!

Wolcensmen is for fans of Ulver, Empyrium, Wardruna and Dead Can Dance. The one-man band by talented Dan Capp (also known from Winterfylleth) create a mythological world with his dark folk hymns. Last year saw the release of the second Wolcensmen full-length, "Fire In The White Stone", including his first-ever fantasy short story accompanying the music and making this an elaborate, unique release. Music At Last (AT) were just one of many falling completely for this fantastic tale and music: “Very rare, wonderful piece of music. So captivating. The world definitely needs more exceptional artists such as Dan Capp (Wolcensmen).” And Musika (BE) gave the release a full 90/100 writing that “If you call yourself a music lover, you should listen to this. You will find that you not only fully unwind, but that you are also dragged into the story that Wolcensmen presents here. Honestly, this requires a film adaptation!”.

“LÜTetro” is a driving alternative rock song, which features some post-punk vibes as well. Especially within the song’s chorus, LÜT get very catchy again. The omnipresent energy on “LÜTetro” is really captivating, and delivers raw power through the straight forward drum beat. The band combines this force with their incredibly tuneful and appealing pop-structures. The song has little solo-details, which add a great psychey spice to “LÜTetro”, which is simply another amazing single!

Ørjan (guitars) on the single: "It's feels so great that LÜTetro is finally released! This is one of our personal favourites on the coming album. We hope people will play this so loud the neighbours can hear, and that people will join the celebration tonight. We have planned a great digital evening". Les autorités françaises signent la fin de la partie pour nous via un arrêté préfectoral.

Il n’y aura pas de HELLFEST cette année.

Vous avez été nombreux à vous inquiéter au sujet de cette 15ème édition anniversaire, mais encore plus à nous témoigner votre soutien dans cette situation sans précédent, qui nous frappe tous de plein fouet. Nous avons espéré, comme vous, et ce jusqu’à la dernière minute, que le festival puisse avoir lieu. Malheureusement, face à la situation inédite actuelle, la Préfecture de Loire-Atlantique,
accompagnée du Ministère de la Culture, ont pris la seule décision qui s’imposait, celle de l’interdire.

L’édition du HELLFEST 2020 est par conséquent annulée. Nous partageons avec eux cette position et les remercions pour la considération et la réactivité dont ils ont fait preuve vis à vis du festival. Plus les jours passaient et plus il nous semblait impossible d’envisager une édition 2020 garantissant une organisation satisfaisante, et, le plus important : votre sécurité.

Ayant conscience que le risque de contagion lié au Covid-19 sera encore élevé en juin, il aurait été irresponsable et dangereux de laisser se rassembler plusieurs dizaines de milliers de fans - torse nu et assoiffés de bière - dans un périmètre ne permettant pas de faire respecter la distanciation sociale de rigueur.

Les autorités nous ont également signifié ne plus être en mesure de pouvoir mettre en place les dispositifs de sécurité et de secours habituels (forces de l’ordre, médecins urgentistes, secouristes etc…) nécessaires à tout grand rassemblement comme le nôtre.

La boule au ventre, nous vous donnons finalement rendez-vous pour cette 15ème édition anniversaire du Hellfest les 18, 19 et 20 juin 2021. Si vous êtes en possession d’un Pass 3 jours ou d’un Pass 1 jour pour l’édition qui devait se tenir en juin prochain, nous vous offrons la possibilité de le convertir en pass pour l’édition 2021, et ce sans frais supplémentaire. Pour cela, il vous sera simplement renvoyé sous peu, par e-mail, un nouveau billet valable pour le Hellfest 2021.

Si vous ne le souhaitez pas, ou n’êtes pas certain de pouvoir participer à l’édition 2021, deux choix s’offrent à vous :

• Rendez-vous sur Ticketswap, l’unique revendeur officiel de tickets valables pour le festival, qui vous garantira une transaction sécurisée. Inutile de préciser les tickets achetés par tous autres biais (Viagogo, Stubhub, …) ne seront pas valables.

En optant pour ce choix, vous ferez plusieurs heureux : un festivalier qui désespérait de ne pas pouvoir venir cette année ; et notre association qui pourra ainsi limiter les dégâts et préparer sereinement l’édition 2021 de VOTRE festival.

• Une solution de remboursement sera également proposée. Nous reviendrons prochainement vers vous sur les différentes possibilités qui vous seront proposées, y compris pour les spécificités liées aux différents packs transports (train, bus, etc…).

C’est un vrai coup dur pour notre association à but non lucratif ainsi que pour notre territoire.

Par respect pour vous, les fans qui avez fait du Hellfest ce qu’il est aujourd’hui, nous tenons à être le plus transparent possible sur les répercussions liées à ce report « forcé ». À partir d’aujourd’hui, l’association Hellfest Productions qui organise chaque année le festival, va devoir affronter un certain nombre de difficultés. A contrario d’autres secteurs, qui seront eux aussi durement touchés par un ralentissement de l’économie sur plusieurs mois, notre association va, elle, devoir faire face à une « année blanche ». Les mesures gouvernementales, que nous saluons, ne suffiront pas à combler les lourdes pertes que l’association va devoir supporter : salaires, frais généraux et de promotion, amortissements bancaires, sont autant de coûts incompressibles qui ne pourront être financés avec une année sans festival.

Consciente des enjeux et de sa responsabilité, l’association Hellfest Productions avait pourtant pris le soin de contracter une assurance de type « tout sauf » avec la compagnie susnommée ALBINGIA, société française d’assurance ayant son siège à Levallois Perret, et ce pour la modique somme de 175 000 €, correspondant au montant de la prime du contrat censé nous couvrir de potentiels risques menant à une annulation. Ce même contrat d’assurance stipule clairement que seront prises en charge les pertes pécuniaires dues à d’éventuelles pandémies à condition que le contrat ait été signé avant l’apparition et la reconnaissance de cette pandémie par les autorités françaises ou par l’OMS. Notre contrat a été signé le 17 décembre 2019, soit avant l’apparition officielle du virus en Chine.
Seulement voilà, notre chère compagnie d’assurance démontre à qui en doutait encore, qu’il est plus facile de payer des primes de contrat plutôt que d’obtenir réparation pour des préjudices censés être couverts : ALBINGIA nous a adressé une fin de non-recevoir sous prétexte que ce « type » de pandémie ne rentrait pas dans les termes de notre police d’assurance.

Nous contestons évidemment cette lecture et cette prise de position. Pour ALBINGIA la solidarité c’est pour les autres, quitte à mettre en péril économiquement leurs assurés. Leur raisonnement est simple, prendre nos cotisations pour une assurance annulation : OUI, nous indemniser : JAMAIS. Pour ce faire, il suffit de jouer sur les mots et imaginer des interprétations pour entamer un procès qui durera des années. Années pendant lesquelles ALBINGIA gardera bien au chaud les sommes qu’elle nous doit. Une attitude que nous dénonçons aujourd’hui publiquement afin de faire la lumière sur ces pratiques que nous trouvons honteuses, surtout par les temps qui courent.
La solidarité et le respect de leurs engagements devraient être au centre des préoccupations des assureurs.

Bref, en attendant le début de cette longue procédure, deux mots nous viennent à destination de cette compagnie d’assurance censée être spécialisée dans les domaines de l’évènementiel et de l’audiovisuel : FUCK YOU !

Loin d’être un soulagement pour nous, ce report d’un an met également en difficulté financière de nombreux acteurs sans lesquels le festival n’aurait pas lieu : intermittents du spectacle, prestataires de services, fournisseurs, associations partenaires, producteurs et artistes... Tous comptent à nos yeux et forment une famille soudée et solidaire. Certains d’entre eux vont être vont gravement atteints par les conséquences liées à leur perte d’activité, et nous souhaitons vivement leur témoigner notre soutien indéfectible. FORGOTTEN TOMB premiere title track from new album "Nihilistic Estrangement"

Italian black/doom metal purveyors FORGOTTEN TOMB premiere a new single from their upcoming tenth studio album, "Nihilistic Estrangement". The album is set to be released on May 8th via Agonia Records. Listen to the title track off the record, here:

The new single is coming to other streaming platforms at midnight, including Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music.

The album's cover artwork is a painting, specifically drawn for this release by artist Paolo Girardi (Power Trip, Bell Witch, Inquisition). It complements the misanthropic and introvert nature of music and lyrics alike.

In a comment that encompasses everything from working on the album, to musical expectations and lyrical themes, the band had this to say: "Nihilistic Estrangement is our tenth album and it opens a new chapter of the band and possibly a new trilogy, therefore it sounds different from our previous release, which closed the past trilogy. The whole idea and concept behind the album was to make something detached from all the current trends in terms of style and production so that it would feel timeless and not chained to a particular frame in time. I chose specific vintage microphones from the 60s/70s for the studio sessions and mostly played on early 80s instruments, as well as using both analog tapes and mixing desk. It was pretty much recorded like an old album from 40 years ago or such. I pretty much wanted to make something that was removed from the current state of music and the standardized productions that get churned out daily. Musically speaking there are references to all of the band's eras but it sounds very refreshing and extremely personal; it's 100% Forgotten Tomb. The lyrics deal with several different themes but the main focus is about reaching a mental estrangement from the modern world; it's about refusing to partake in the current state of things and finding solace in a inner world of my own where no one can enter. I'd say the lyrics and concepts on this album are extremely misanthropic, even if it's a term that got thrown around so much over the years that it kinda lost its real meaning".

"Nihilistic Estrangement" was produced by Ferdinando "Herr Morbid" Marchisio (vocal, guitars) and mixed by Alessandro "Algol" Comerio (bass). Jack Control mastered the album at Enormous Door Studios (Darkthrone, Aura Noir, Martyrdod).

Après le presque prophétique clip de "Black Bile" et le menaçant "The Machine", DESERT STORM dévoilent leur troisième single intitulé "Pain, Grief and Suffering". DESERT STORM est un groupe incontournable de la scène sludge metal anglaise. Fondé en 2007, le quintet d'Oxford a quatre albums et de nombreux EP à son actif, et se produit aux côtés de groupes référence tels que Karma To Burn, Nashville Pussy, Peter Pan Speedrock, Orange Goblin, Red Fang, Weedeater, Crowbar, Mondo Generator, The Atomic Bitchwax mais également sur les scènes des Bloodstock Festival, Hammerfest, Hard Rock Hell, Giants of Rock, Desertfest (UK/DE) & Roadkill Festival.

Début 2018, le groupe sort son quatrième album "Sentinels" chez APF Records et passe deux années à le promouvoir en live, partant en tournée avec Karma To Burn, Boss Keloid, Raging Speedhorn, et ouvrant pour Corrosion of Conformity ou encore Skindred.
Tandis que "Sentinels" était plébiscité comme leur opus le plus sombre et pesant, "Omens" voit DESERT STORM atteindre des sommets en terme de composition et de narration. Le quintet a trouvé un équilibre idéal entre hymnes sludge metal menaçants et breaks plus introspectifs se parant de touches de piano ; passages où Matt Ryan passe du growl létal à une narration en baryton des plus captivantes. On May 1st Final Coil, in conjunction with their label, Wormholedeath, will release the "Convicted Of The Right" EP .

To celebrate the announcement, the band have unleashed an astonishing official video for the track!

‘Convicted Of The Right’ itself is one of the most powerful tracks from The World We Left Behind For Others, both musically and lyrically and the band have filmed a stunning promo video to accompany its release. The video brings to life in harrowing fashion the song’s commentary on the conditioning and indoctrination of young men fed into the military machine. Final Coil front man Phil Stiles spoke to us about the song, ‘Convicted Of The Right’...

“In the song, which opens to the sound of gunfire, we witness my Grandfather, mired in alcoholism, looking back upon his training. As his past merges with his present, he remains resolutely convicted that what he did was right; that the ends justified the means – and, from a certain perspective he was… but then there are men (and women) all around the world who use the same justification for their state-sanctioned actions from their perspective..They can’t all be right, can they?” 



The video was created by the same team that brought another track from The World We Left Behind For Others to such vivid life last year - The Last Battle – and there are many suggested links between the two films as Phil explains... 


“Shot on the same location, an abandoned military base in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside, we meticulously recreated a squat in which a veteran of an unnamed war would slowly suffer a complete mental collapse. Tormented by visions of past conflicts and a particularly vehement drill instructor; surrounded by the detritus of his attempts to forget the past and unable to contain a sense of utter alienation, he takes refuge in the comforting notion that his past was mandated by a force stronger than the individual. What follows is unclear, but if the character whom we saw running from some unseen foe in the first clip really is the same character we see lurking in the background in the squat, then we can only fear for her safety…” 
As mentioned above, this release is the Convicted Of The Right EP, rather than just a single, which means the powerful album track is backed by an array of exciting, exclusive material. The band travelled down to The Lab in London where they recorded three tracks live in the studio. These vibrant versions of ‘Empty Handed’, ‘Spider Feet’ and ‘You Waste My Time’ will all appear on the new EP and were all captured on film for future video release.


The Convicted Of The Right EP will be released both digitally and on limited edition cassette and provides the perfect conclusion to the incredible journey of The World We Left Behind For Others. The journey of Final Coil however, is just beginning..."

ATREYU RELEASE "SUPER HERO" VIDEO FEATURING AVENGED SEVENFOLD'S M. SHADOWS + UNDEROATH'S AARON GILLESPIE — WATCH

Atreyu have shared the video for "Super Hero" from their 2018-released album In Our Wake. The track features appearances from Avenged Sevenfold frontman M.Shadows and Underoath drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie.

"Our song 'Super Hero' was written about what it's like to be a parent and the vast amount of time, effort, energy, and hard work it takes to be a real-life superhero for your children," the band says. "The song also has a broader meaning, especially given the current situation the entire world is dealing with. There are many superheroes out there who appear in many forms — namely the first responders, medical personnel, and health care workers who are putting others first as they work to fight COVID-19 and to save lives. We dedicate this song to them."
Atreyu are working on their eighth album, due out via Spinefarm Records later this year.

Avis aux citoyens du AVATAR COUNTRY et autres habitants de la planète terre !


Ça n’est pas sans une certain excitation que The King et son orchestra d’élite connu sous le nom d’Avatar, viennent de lancer sur la toile Legend Of Avatar Country: A Metal Odyssey, un court-métrage directement inspiré de l’album du même nom.

A l’origine ce projet de film avait été lancé à travers une campagne de crowdfunding sur la plateforme participative Kickstarter, où l’objectif du budget avait été atteint en 90 minutes à peine ! Prouvant ainsi engouement des citoyens du Pays d’Avatar pour leur roi. Ce document historique est désormais disponible pour un public plus large via YouTube. Le groupe ne pouvait imaginer une plus belle manière de clore la glorieuse histoire d’Avatar Country !

Le chanteur Johannes Eckerström est d’ailleurs très enthousiaste lorsqu’il s’exprime sur ce sujet :

« Nous sommes en train de créer quelque chose de très spécial. Je pense que les gens commencent à comprendre que nous sommes sur le point de nous réincarner, tel un nouveau monstre comme à chaque fois que nous nous lançons dans une nouvelle aventure. Mais alors que nous étions déjà occupés sur ce nouveau projet, nous avons voulu donner à Avatar Country une dernière touche qui reflétait tout ce que nous en avions pu en imaginer. C’était une chose unique à faire, un concept qui nous a prouvé que tout est possible et, surtout, que nos fans sont aussi fous que nous. Ça serait vraiment amusant de regarder ce film avec eux. »



Après le succès remporté en France dans des festivals tels que le Hellfest, le Download, ou le Motocultor, en 1ère partie de Slipknot et, surtout, en tête d’affiche à travers tout l’Hexagone, Avatar est actuellement en studio avec le producteur Jay Ruston afin de mettre en boîte le successeur d’Avatar Country. C’est d’ailleurs la première fois que le groupe enregistre aux Etats-Unis…

Stone of a bitch est un duo indé, mixte, de rock électro-percussif. Il est fondé sur une double stack instrumentale : une stack électrique ‘traditionnelle’ (guitares, amplis, effets) et une stack électro (sampler, séquenceur, groove machine, synthés). Chacun des membres gère une stack. Aux machines, Chris(telle), chanteuse, assure également le lead vocal ; tandis que Loïc, guitariste, est aux backing vocals. Ce concept permet d’établir un pont entre des univers a priori pas évidents à réunir, en mélangeant des ingrédients de groove (beats, samples...), de mélodie (chants, solos…), et d’excitants (distorsions, filtres…). Un laboratoire de sons, idéal pour fusionner les influences diverses des musiciens (rock, trip hop, blues, rap, soul).

Mixed by David Castillo, mastered by Ted Jensen, produced once again by Mark Lewis (Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder), and featuring artwork by Branca Studio, The Valley is a reference to the part of Hardin Valley (west of Knoxville, Tennessee) where vocalist Phil Bozeman grew up. Set against this backdrop, he approaches his subject matter unflinchingly, building upon everything that came before, making it clear that he has survived that which he was forced to endure and is not afraid to confront it. "Phil has been upfront in his lyrics in the past about hardships he endured in his life as a child, and I believe with this record we tried to paint a better picture of that," says guitarist Alex Wade, who alongside his bandmates, stands 100% behind everything their vocalist has to say. "I feel our music is Phil's release from his past, being able to get it out and speak about it, and hopefully anyone who hears it that may have gone through similar experiences can find some release in it as well."

Verminous is The Black Dahlia Murder's most dynamic, rousing and emotional release to date, and it achieves this without compromising one iota of heaviness. "I think this is the biggest evolutionary leap we've ever taken from one album to the next. We stoked the creative fires with 2017's 'Nightbringers' and it's gone much further now in 'Verminous'," states vocalist Trevor Strnad. "It's a very colorful, moody, and charismatic album that experiments with new sounds and ideas without losing the cutthroat Black Dahlia edge. There is a lot of minutiae to digest. Plenty of delicious little Easter eggs woven into the fabric of each song. Each one is a living, breathing entity that will stand on its own as some of the best music this band has ever created."



While the drums were recorded at The Pipeyard in Plymouth, Michigan by ex-bassist and longtime studio guru Ryan "Bart" Williams, the bulk of the album was recorded in New Jersey at guitarist Brandon Ellis' home studio, the Shred Light District, then mixed by Tue Madsen and mastered by Alan Douches. Produced by Ellis and the band, Verminous sees Black Dahlia having a greater level of control over every facet of recording than on any previous release, enabling them to tweak and fine-tune all the small details right up until the point they sent it to Madsen in Denmark. "To say we were anal-retentive would be an understatement. Tue did an outstanding job. His mix is organic. Classic sounding. Not too slick. It's got an old school 'real life' feel to it rather than being the overly polished quantized-to-hell drek that is coming out these days. We wanted the album's sound to have its own personality, and he helped us achieve just that. Finally, Alan did a great job of smoothing out the final details with his mastering. He beefed it up into what you hear now." The only other outside collaborators with which the band worked were soundscape artist Michael Ghelfi, who provided the sample that opens the record and "sets the pest-ridden vibe", and Juanjo Castellano, who painted the cover. "It's amazing and classically death metal cover artwork. I call it an evil underground sewer world, home to the verminous ones. If you look closely you can find all kinds of rats and bugs and critters scattered throughout. The amount of detail Juanjo put in there is second to none."



In support of Verminous, The Black Dahlia Murder will first head out to South Africa in April, before hitting the road with Testament for a North American tour, featuring Municipal Waste and Meshiaak as openers. Dating back to the band's inception in 2002, vocalist/guitarist/bassist/drummer Athenar has always known exactly what he wanted Midnight to be, and over the course of countless demos, EPs, compilations, splits and three full-lengths he has stayed true to his roots. There is no denying that, like its predecessors, Rebirth By Blasphemy is a ruthlessly catchy collection, every song, vicious as they are, wielding the kind of hooks that sink deep and don't let go.

Handling every instrument himself and being quite unfussy when it comes to production typically means that the recording process is a straightforward one for Midnight, and this time was no different. Staying in his home town of Cleveland, he opted to record at Mercenary Studios with the assistance of Noah Buchanan, laying the drums down in a day, the guitars in a little more than that, bass in a few hours, and then tracking the vocals to two or three songs a day. "I think there's really no production value on the album, it's really just get in there, press record and see what happens. Maybe you can tell that the sessions went pretty quickly when you listen to it. There are so-called mistakes, of course, but I wouldn't have it any other way." He also wouldn't have it any other way when it comes to touring this latest collection hard, with a lot of dates with a variety of bands already locked down. "It's the rebirth, it's saying fuck it and getting out there and doing what you're supposed to do, and we're supposed to play music. If people want to damage their ears by listening to it, that's welcomed."
